Why Did I Become A Woman Entrepreneur?

Many would say and rightfully so, that Entrepreneurship has it’s pros and cons. However, depending on our vision, on our passion, on what we bring to the table, on the tools at our disposal, on our mindset and on our expectations, to me, it is one of the most rewarding economic opportunity of our time!

Entrepreneurship is the pursuit of opportunity beyond the resources you currently control.”  Professor Howard Stevenson of the Harvard Business School

Why Did I Become A Woman Entrepreneur ? I wish I could have a face to face with you because I have so many reasons for getting into Entrepreneurship. However, I will strive to share briefly the main reasons that incited me to start my journey into Entrepreneurship.

One day, while I was facilitating a corporate French class, I heard a small voice deep inside of me. It was so clear, I just could not ignore it. The voice told me : “Eva, it is time for you to resign“. Imagine my surprise. To be honest with you, I had not given it a thought and that came to me as a surprise. Although I had been struggling to juggle work, family and dreams, I always thought, things would somehow get better… and they never…they got worse. No time for myself, not enough time to be a parent, falling asleep in front of TV, not enough time for my spouse and no time for my friends. Does any of it sound familiar to you ? So my first reason to become an Entrepreneur was to follow my inspiration.

As Professor Howard eloquently said, Entrepreneurship is a pursuit of opportunity. I wanted more opportunities out of life. I liked my full-time work at the time but I knew I had hit the glass ceiling at work and I wanted more. Once I turned the page, I realized that Entrepreneurship was one of the best things that had happened to me as it opened up new doors to me.

Being a woman entrepreneur is rewarding as it gives me the freedom to not only run my business but also play my role in society and be a change agent. I can work and mentor. I can work and empower. I can work and inspire. I can work and influence people to unleash their true potential.

Being a Woman Entrepreneur gave me the space and platform to make peace with my past and heal. Too often, we go through hardships, overcome them and do not take time to breathe, heal, forgive, cry, express ourselves, learn and then move on. Entrepreneurship gave me that opportunity.

We all have a past. But how it influences our present and our future is up to us”. Eva Arissani

I suffered a great deal and I paid my dues to the university of life. I was 14 years old when I had my first child. The father of the child denied the pregnancy. To cut a long story short, I tried to commit suicide… did not die… Obviously it was not my time to go… I rolled up my sleeve and asked God for guidance. He heard my prayer and led the way. School gave me a way out of poverty, misery and deprivation.

More than 20 years down the line, I understood why I had to go through my hardships. There is nothing more powerful than a true life testimony. Today, my life purpose is to inspire young girls going through what I went through to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. My life purpose is to let young girls know that they are beautiful and that they do not need to ‘fit in’ to be happy. My life purpose is for young girls to learn to develop self-confidence and self-esteem and to prevent teenage pregnancy. My life purpose is to run my NGO She Phoenix Femme Phoenix which aims at equipping young girls, especially teenage mothers, with the life skills that will enable them to unleash their true potential, become leaders, beat the odds and break free from the shackles of poverty. My life purpose is to accompany people in their quest for a more balanced life and to play a positive role in society. As you can see, Entrepreneurship is playing an important role in my life. I would not have managed to realize all my goals if I was still working as an employee…

Why Did I become a Woman Entrepreneur? It is giving me the opportunity to be the wife I always dreamed of being. I have been married for almost 9 years and let me tell you, applying myself to this relationship has been so rewarding. Every single day feels like the first day. It takes time, passion, love and much more to make it work. Entrepreneurship is giving me the space I need to put family first.

Why Did I Become A Woman Entrepreneur? I jumped into Entrepreneurship because I knew that God made us a promise. It is said : ” Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. – Proverbs 10:4 (NIV)“. My understanding is that whoever applies himself/ herself to work with the necessary diligence is bound to succeed. It is the law. I work with the law and strongly believe in the law. To date, He never failed me and I know He will keep His promise.
